Our History
The dream of Rev. Fr. Herbert BULBWA (of blessed memory) who had deep love and passion to see children grow wholesomely culminated in the establishment of St. Winifred Girls secondary school Ihugh. A priest who was, at the time, serving as the parish priest of St. Winifred parish Ihugh and would later become the founder and the first resident proprietor.
This dream became feasible as a result of the dire need for a girls school in this axis of the state where it could create an environment to cater, nurture, support, challenge and encourage the girl child to grow in sound education.
The school which was designed as a ground for building academic excellence commenced operation on the 10th of October, 2005. This was under the episcopate of his lordship, Most Rev. Athanasius Atule USUH (of blessed memory), the catholic bishop of the big Makurdi diocese at the time. Gboko Diocese would later be carved out, the diocese where the school is situate and pays allegiance. Under the Bishop, his lordship, Most Rev. William Amove AVENYA, the current local proprietor, the school is making giant strides.
At inception, the school began with 76 learners aged 9 – 12 years respectively; and 11 academic staff, this was under the auspice of the pioneer principal, Mrs. Priscilla Mbafan AGWAZA.
From this humble start, St. Winifred Girls Ihugh continues to grow in leaps and bounds, and has become a center of formation for the girl child. The school has remained a fountain of true knowledge for young girls, girding them with hard work and handing them the shield of high morality.
The school is located along km 1 Ihugh – Vandeikya road, with a serene environment. The facilities are of standard and information communication technology is deployed for effective teaching and learning. At St. Winifred girls secondary school Ihugh, grooming is done and learners enjoy rock–solid foundation; making them fit all-round. Products of this school standout wherever they find themselves. This is because, we are able to maintain the standard of the school with the help of qualified teachers and seasoned administration, coupled with functional laboratories and computer room.
The school also presents students for WAEC, NECO and BECE. The performance has equally been superb and encouraging all the years.

The school boost of a staff population of 45 academic staff and 20 non-academic staff. Rev. Fr. Isaac Terungwa SHALEGH is the current principal of the school, second in succession and the first male principal to head St. Winifred Girls Secondary School, Ihugh.
